SENER develops innovative technology that improves environmental protection

SENER directs part of its R&D investment towards technology that improves environmental protection, and performs environmental impact studies. Its most notable R&D projects are CATdBTren, which recently won a research grant from the Catalonian government. The SENER led project is aimed at reducing the noise and vibration produced by rail infrastructures in cities. As part of this initiative, SENER will analyse the phenomenology linked to the generation and propagation of vibrations in existing rail infrastructures, ranging from metro to conventional and high-speed rail (AVE). It will also study the impact of said phenomena on urban environments and on the inside of buildings. Based on these results SENER will define constructive solutions to minimise the impact of new railway infrastructures and shall offer companies that award railway infrastructure contracts a way of complying with maximum vibration levels subject to current legislation. The CATdBTren project involves developing a new superstructure design and low vibratory impact fixing system, as well as vibration prediction software for railway infrastructures.
